How does Juvéderm work?
Treatments are done in our office and take about 30 minutes and the result is immediate. Juvéderm contains hyaluronic acid in the form of a crystal-clear gel. Unlike other fillers, it is supplied to your doctor in densities (Juvederm Ultra & Juvederm Ultra Plus and Juvederm XC). Each one is designed for a specific treatment area and now with lidocaine anesthesia to alleviate the pain. Your doctor may use a mixture of densities to help you achieve your desired appearance or in addition use other types of volumizing or structural fillers such as ArteFill, Sculptra or Botox depending on the situation and area being treated.
Juvéderm is injected into the skin (dermis) to create volume, resulting in a healthy and vital appearance. When injected into the lip it can restore a more natural and/or sensuous look. In contrast to other implants, Juvéderm is not extracted from animals. This means that you don't have to worry about an allergic reaction. What areas respond the best to Juvéderm?
Fine lines in the forehead, "crow's feet", wrinkles between the eyes, on the cheeks and at the corners of the mouth, and deeper wrinkles on the cheeks and chin, nasolabial folds (smile lines), and depressed acne scars all respond well to Juvéderm. Lip enhancement or a "pouting" lip can be achieved using Juvéderm to give you a more natual looking lip. Is it safe?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body and therefore it also dissolves naturally (biodegrades) with time and is integrated into your body's tissues. Over time, the molecules dissolve and turn into water as they depart without leaving any trace in your body.
How long does it last?
It varies from individual to individual. The length of time your treatment will last depends on many factors such as your skin, your lifestyle and your age. Most patients find the effect remains 6- 9 months depending on the area of the face it is placed. It remaines longer in area of less mechanical movement. However, the average lip treatment only lasts up to 6 months due to their higher blood flow and mechanical use.

What are the treatments like?
The treatment is performed by injecting Juvéderm under your skin. Since no pre-test is needed, the whole procedure takes less than 30 minutes. Pain relief is usually not needed, but many patients like the added comfort provided when we apply an anesthetic cream or ointment about 30 minutes before the injections. For lip augmentation we use a local nerve block with lidocaine much like your dentist.
How will I look after my treatment?
After Dr. Caglia performs your Juvéderm dermal filler injections, normal activities can be resumed immediately. Discomfort is minimal. The treatment site may have swelling, which may last a few hours to a few days depending on which areas were injected. This can be helped with gentle cold compresses. There may be some slight bruising which can be covered with make-up or lipstick. Depending on the area treated, correction usually lasts from 6 - 9 months. We suggest patients avoid aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin), and Vitamin E for 7 days prior to procedure, especially if they tend to bruise easily. You are advised to speak with your doctor during consultation to discuss your treatment plan.
